Рождественские конкурсы для учащихся

Предлагаемый материал позволит не только переключить внимание детей, внести элемент игры, весело и интересно провести урок, но и проверить или значительно повысить уровень познаний культурных традиций страны изучаемого языка. Данный материал можно использовать при подготовке конкурсов, викторин. Материал рассчитан для учащихся 5 – 6 классов.

Christmas

I. Guess the riddles

What season is it? What month is it?

This is the season This cold and frosty day

When the mornings are dark The sun is bright,

And birds do not sing The snow is right!

In the forest and park. This month brings you ski

This is the season And the Christmas tree.

When children ski

And Father Christmas

Brings the Christmas tree.

II. Match the beginning of the song with its ending

1. Jingle a) On Christmas Night

2. Santa Claus b) In Our Hearts

3. Let It Be c) A Little Christmas

4. Christmas d) Bell

5. We Need e) Christmas

6. A Wish f) Is Coming To Town

III. Put the paragraphs in a logical order

Over the end of the bed people hang stockings. Children believe that Father Christmas will come down the chimney and fill the stockings with presents. A carrot for the reindeer is usually left on the mantelpiece.

On Christmas Day many people go to church. On returning from church the family gather round the Tree and open the parcels. Everyone gets something.

On Christmas Eve everything is rush. Offices close at one o’clock but the shops stay open late. Most cities are decorated with coloured lights and enormous Christmas trees. In the homes people decorate Christmas trees and hang a bunch of mistletoe under which the boys kiss the girls. They also arrange Christmas cards on shelves, tables, mantelpieces. The housewife is busy cooking a turkey and baking Christmas cakes.

Christmas Day is observed on the 25th of December. In Britain Christmas is the most widely celebrated festival. It is the most colourful and merry holiday.

Christmas meal is really traditional – stuffed turkey, boiled ham, mashed potatoes to be followed by plum pudding, mince pies, tea or coffee and cakes.

People travel from all parts of the country to be at home for Christmas.
